Experts in Custom Data Center Racks

Cadrex has worked with top Data Center Infrastructure Solutions (DCIS) customers for over 20 years, building their custom racks and cabinets for innovative computing environments. We know the first step in a highly complex rack system, the rack, is critical to every component in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning environments. Cadrex engineers understand that dimensions and components are increasing while tolerances are decreasing. That is why we ensure all critical tolerances are met and that structural integrity and functional requirements are achieved. Cadrex also has a stake in this game, as we are simultaneously building the trays, shelves, chassis, and rack accessories that must fit perfectly in the racks we produced.

Cadrex has dedicated rack factories and capabilities in the US & Mexico that allow us to onboard new programs in record time. Our fully automated facilities and dedicated DCIS engineers keep speed to scale top of mind while delivering DFM, prototypes, first articles, and ultimately custom production racks.

Metal Fabrication Capabilities

  • Custom Data Center AI/ML Racks

As the AI and Machine learning continues to develop, custom racks are the preferred way to balance the hardware requirements for modern data center needs.

  • Dedicated Rack Facilities

Cadrex has three dedicated rack production facilities with more on the way. Dedicated space for rack production means faster scalability and more capacity alongside experts in product fabrication.

  • Robotic Welding Cells

Robotic welding cells allow for fully repeatable, high-speed welding applications in highly-automated production lines.

  • Custom Automated Assembly Lines

Cadrex automation engineers and production experts can build custom assembly lines that are highly automated, built for speed and efficiency with a high level of quality review.

  • Sheet Metal Fabrication

Sheet metal assembly is another aspect of sheet metal fabrication; this method involves putting together individual parts to build a complete product. There are various types of mechanical assembly processes, typically determined by the product’s end use. Metal welding involves melting or soldering pieces of metal together. Riveting is the process of fastening pieces of metal together.

  • Sheet Metal Stamping

Sheet metal stamping is the process of turning sheet metal into specific shapes. During the manufacturing process, sheet metal is fed into a press brake where it is shaped by a tool and die. The tonnage, or amount of pressure applied by the press, needed is determined by the type of metal and the desired shape. Metal stamping, also called hard tooling, is great for producing multiple, uniform metal parts at scale.

  • Plastic Injection Molding

Plastic Injection Molding is the process of injecting molten plastic material (resin) into a custom mold cavity of a metal tool. This process results in highly repeatable, cost-effective parts that may be used in data center racks.

  • Painting, Pad Printing, and Screen Printing

Cadrex offers a myriad of mechanical assembly and finishing solutions, including conveyor paint line systems, pad printing, and silk screening. Products move through a conveyor paint line for finishing applications, like coat paint, powder coating, or wet spray. Pad printing is the process of transferring a 2-D image onto a 3-D object or part. Silk screening is a method of transferring ink or dye onto a base material or fabric around a stencil.

Decades of Rack Manufacturing Experience

Cadrex has been building data center racks and other data center hardware assemblies for decades. Our expertise comes from long-standing relationships with innovative customers and deep market experience. Cadrex engineers understand the critical tolerances required for structural integrity and have developed dedicated NPI, prototype, and production launch processes specific to data center infrastructure solutions. We have invested in fully automated facilities and equipment to meet these requirements.

Total Rack Platform Experts

Cadrex produces parts and assemblies for the entire rack platform, including racks, shelves, trays, chassis, and a variety of accessories, including power shelves, IT rails, cable managers, top hat, drip tray, mounting brackets, cable tray, parking module, and accessory brackets. We have the knowledge and experience to produce, assemble, and integrate 1000’s of parts and purchased components. It’s critical that all parts are within tolerance and assembled perfectly so next-level integration can happen seamlessly.

Welded Rack Assembly

Welded Rack Assembly

Pros: Welded racks are constructed by permanently fusing the steel components together. Fusing the metal creates a single, continuous structure which allows for higher weight capacities. This allows welded racks to support massive static and dynamic loads, making them ideal for heavy blade servers and dense storage arrays. Because there are no mechanical fasteners, welded racks will never experience loose bolts or structural sagging over years of use. They also perform exceptionally well in seismic (earthquake-prone) zones.

Cons: Since welded racks cannot be disassembled if a single vertical rail or panel gets severely damaged, the entire rack usually has to be scrapped.

Mechanical Fastener Rack Assembly

Mechanical Fastener Rack Assembly

Pros: Riveted or bolted racks use mechanical fasteners to connect modular steel frame pieces. If a component is damaged during installation or operation, you can simply unrivet or unbolt that specific part and replace it, rather than replacing the whole rack.

Cons: Mechanical joints—even heavy-duty rivets—are inherently weaker than continuous welds. They have lower weight thresholds for both static equipment and dynamic movement. Over time, structural vibrations from heavy cooling fans and server operations can cause mechanical fasteners to settle or loosen slightly, potentially requiring periodic maintenance checks.
